Bendt Bendtsen is a Member of the European Parliament for the Danish Conservative Party, and is a member of the Committee on Industry, Research & Energy. He is also a Deputy of the Budget Committee.
He is married, with three adult children and lives on a farm in Allesø, Odense, when he is not in Brussels. He loves to hunt, play golf and ride motorbikes.
He has a long political career, including a series of prominent roles in the Danish Conservative Party:
- Deputy Prime Minister and Economy and Trade Minister (2001-2008)
- Political leader of the Conservative Party (1999-2008)
- Chairman of the Conservative Party (2000-2008)
- Vice President of the Globalization Council (2005-2006)
- Vice President of International Democratic Union (IDU) (2005 -)
- The Danish EU Presidency (2002)
- Participated in numerous EU ministerial meetings (2001-2008)
- Member of the Internal Market Council (2001-2008)
- Member of parliament for the Conservatives (1994-2009)
- Member of the Odense City Council, spokesman (1990-1999)
