Birger Riis-Jørgensen is the Danish Ambassador to the UK and is based in the Danish Embassy in London. He is State Secretary, sits on The Danish Trade Council, and is part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador, he has held several key roles in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including being Head of the Middle East and Latin America Department (1994-1996), and of the East and West Africa Department (1991-1994). He has also represented Denmark on the NATO Defense Review Committee and Executive Working Group and the NATO Political Committee.
Ambassador Riis-Jørgensen studied history at the University of Copenhagen and in Stockholm, then became a graduate fellow at the University of New Mexico, before returning to Denmark to take up a post as Assistant Professor of International Politics at the University of Copenhagen.
He is married and has two children.
