Mr Mike Bowron joined the City of London Police as Assistant Commissioner and Deputy to the Commissioner in September 2002.

He is responsible for operational policing and performance in the City of London Police and chairs the Force Performance Management Group (PMG). Mr Bowron is the Senior Officer responsible for the City's key policing areas, including economic crime, anti-terrorism and public order, specialist crime operations, and territorial policing units.

Mr Bowron began his policing career with Sussex Constabulary in 1980, having previously enjoyed a 4 year career in the Insurance world working for a Lloyd’s broker. In 1990 he was attached to the European Unit at NSY researching the implications of a Europe without frontiers, where he was promoted to Chief Inspector.

Between 1991 and 1994 Mr Bowron was part of a Foreign and Commonwealth Office working party helping to reform the police in Czechoslovakia. In 1995 Mike attended the Strategic Command Course at the Police Staff College, Bramshill and is also a graduate of its Special Course. He holds an Upper Second Honours Degree in Sociology from Sussex University.

In 2000 he was posted to the British Embassy in Jakarta for six months and was given responsibility for separating the Indonesian National Police from the Military and carrying out a thorough reorganisation to meet the needs of the new democracy.

Mr Bowron is a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers' (ACPO) and sits on the ACPO Cabinet. He is the ACPO National lead on Economic Crime as well as Business Continuity. Mr Bowron leads on the ACPO Media Advisory Group (MAG) and has been the lead media spokesperson for Chief Officers on national matters including, the Iraq war and Fire Brigade strikes.

He was awarded the Queens Police Medal in the Queens Birthday Honour list in 2007 and in November 2008 received an Honorary Doctorate of Science from City University. In 2007 he was appointed a Commissioner of Lieutenancy for the City of London and is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts

Mikes passion outside policing is athletics. He has represented the British Police cross country team and has run a sub 3 hour marathon.
