The Genesis Initiative - Supporting SMEs in the UK and Europe

HRH Prince Michael of Kent and a delegation from The Genesis Initiative are in Denmark at the invitation of the British Chamber of Commerce in Denmark. During their visit, they will be focussing on sharing information on the focus areas and successes they have had in a UK context, and discussing the impact of Europe on the success of SMEs, and seek common ares of interest.
The Genesis Initiative was formed in 1999 under the initiative of the first British Minister with specific responsibility for Small Businesses. It represents some 113 individual SME organizations (Small and Medium size Enterprises) who in turn, represent close to 1 million members in the UK.
The Genesis Initiative has created a Manifesto which focuses on 8 themes including:
- The creation of a Small Business Minister at Cabinet level
- A more business friendly environment for SMEs
- The creation of a Small Business Commission
- A Charter giving small business owners the same rights as employees
- Exempt SMEs from onerous legislation
- Reduce regulation and simplify taxation
- Improved training for SME owners
- Positive discrimination for Public Sector contracts towards companies employing less than 50 people
