The BCCD began with the members of the British Business Lunch Club (BBLC), who voted overwhelmingly for the club to become the British Chamber of Commerce at their historical Extraordinary General Meetings in May 2004. These members became the first Individual Members of the Chamber. Therefore Individual Membership carries on and evolves the attributes of membership characteristic of the BBLC for those members who joined the Chamber during the first year.
Among the benefits of Individual Members are:
- Membership of an organisation with a high profile and visibility in the Danish business world;
- Increasing opportunities for bilateral and corporate networking at Chamber events;
- A programme of monthly lunches with special attendance offers;
- Special rates for Senior (Pensioner) Members and Young (under 28) Professional members;
- An increasing range of social activities, events and special offers, and;
- Access to BCCD website, newsletters and other physical and electronic publications.
Lunches were always the raison d’étre of the BBLC and have continued for Individual Members of the Chamber. They are usually on the third Friday of the month from September to May inclusive, except that there is no lunch just before Christmas. There is a speaker at each lunch and a programme of speakers is published on the web-site with an e-mail reminder.
Past speakers include Uffe Ellemann-Jensen (ex Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs), Henning Dyremose (ex Danish Minister of Finance and present CEO of TDC) Hans Engell (Chief Editor of Ekstra Bladet), Hanne Bech Hansen (Chief of Police in Denmark) and Sten Schiebye (CEO of Coloplast). Members can bring guests for whom they pay. The Individual Subscription Fee including lunches is 1.600 DKK (excluding VAT).
A range of social activities has evolved around the lunches, including the Golf Tournament, bowls, go-carting, horse racing and a tour of Copenhagen at night. We intend to develop this programme for Individual Members of the Chamber.
A newsletter is e-mailed monthly to Individual Members. This serves as a reminder for people about forthcoming events and activities and allows the Board to keep members informed about their intentions for the Chamber. Perhaps the most significant development for Individual Members has been the development of the website, where members are listed in special sections accessible by a personal sign-in code. This website is being substantially up-dated and will have an extended extranet for members in the future.
Some former BBLC members are now retired and continue to attend lunches. For them we have developed a Senior Member category at a concessionary price. Many of the former BBLC members recently have been quite young and so we have also developed a Young Professional Member category for those under 28 at a concessionary rate. |
