BCCD recommends “Oleanna” at Krudttønden!

On Monday 28 February, Ambassador Nick Archer, Mrs Erica Archer and BCCD President Mariano A. Davies were invited to the première of the David Mamet play “Oleanna” at Krudttønden – an intimate little theatre with charm and intensity.

The play is directed by Barry McKenna and the two actors are Sira Stampe (a Danish actress who has worked in London from 1999 to 2004) and Ian Burns (who has appeared at a number of repertory theatres in the UK and has worked in Denmark since 1999). Ian is also a member of BCCD.

In Barry McKenna’s own words, “Oleanna is first and foremost a play about miscommunication, between a man and a woman, between teacher and student. The play’s two characters talk at each other, past each other and are incapable of seeing each other’s point of view…. Oleanna is also about a power struggle and how one should or should not use that power once it is obtained.”

Both actors kept the audience glued to their seats as the characters Carol and John illustrated their extraordinary inability to understand the other. Sympathies change as the actors grapple with each other’s prejudices.
