The Challenge of Global Talent for DenmarkPrint

On Friday 28th October the British Chamber of Commerce in Denmark hosted a lunch event with the head of the Danish Consortium for Global Talent, Tine Horwitz, in attendance as key speaker.

Tine discussed the current focus areas of the Consortium, namely a better environment for expats, taxes on expat researchers, and what the Consortium regarded as an unfortunate tone in the Danish political debate about immigration.

Tine told the lunch participants about how the Consortium works closely with the government to establish more international schools in Denmark and improve the job market opportunities for expat spouses, with these measures easing the difficulties of expats relocating their families to Denmark.

The issue was also raised of the lack of acknowledgment of foreign educational degrees by Danish employers’, and it was accepted that there was definitely room for improvement in this area.

The lunch participants also wanted to discuss how the branding and promotion of Denmark could be improved. As one participant said, “I had never thought about moving to Denmark before I met my Danish wife”. Tine explained how the Consortium is very aware of strengthening the Denmark brand through social media and by working with partners such as Invest in Denmark and Universities.

The participants of course also wanted to hear about the Consortium’s impressions of the new government, whom Tine felt are very engaged and enthusiastic about the global talent issue.

Tine’s presentation ended on the note that she wants Denmark to say to any foreigners who come here, “Welcome! We appreciate you being here!”.
