2010 Culture Prize awarded to Ian Burns of That TheatrePrint

On Friday 26 November 2010, after the penultimate performance of ”The Collector” at Krudttønden in Copenhagen, the. Editor-in-Chief, Ola Sjösten, explained the reasons motivating the selection of Burns:

”As Denmark’s leading English-speaking theatre company That Theatre Company, and its founder, Ian Burns, has set an unmistakable mark on the cultural life in Copenhagen. With stringency, humour and high-quality plays by Beckett, Pinter, Shaffer and others, Ian Burns stands for innovative thinking and border-extending theatre in its finest form, both in Copenhagen and the Oresund Region. Ian Burns and That Theatre Company represent English theatre at its very best.”

Along with a cash prize of Dkk 10,000, Burns received a plaque and a seat on the jury panel for the prize in 2011.

Ian Burns is extremely proud to have received the Culture Prize: “This is a true recognition of our efforts to perform high-quality English speaking drama in Copenhagen. Furthermore, it is an incentive to realize our vision of extending our work into Skåne as well. There’s a need for English-speaking drama throughout the Oresund region and with some support, we may perhaps be able do something about this,” says the proud prize-winning actor-manager.
