Press release from the Royal Navy command: HMS ALBION, the Flagship of the Royal Navy, will visit Copenhagen from 30 September – 05 October.
HMS ALBION is an 18,000 tonne amphibious assault ship with a crew of 370 sailors and marines. The ship is designed to land Royal Marines by landing craft or helicopter anywhere in the world. She is also the Flagship of the Royal Navy. The ship will be moored in the Kronloebsbassinet but will not be open to visits from the public.
Her Commanding Officer, Captain James Morley Royal Navy, said: “The ship’s company are really looking forward to some rest and relaxation in the beautiful city of Copenhagen after a busy period deployed in the Mediterranean and Middle East”.
Following the visit, HMS ALBION is due to conduct further training and operations in northern Europe before returning to her baseport of Plymouth later this year.

HMS ALBION has recently returned to the UK from the COUGAR 11 deployment to the Mediterranean and the Middle East where she was the Flagship of the Response Force Task Group (RFTG), the UK’s maritime quick reaction force. She was involved in supporting NATO operations off the coast of Libya as well as commanding the first Apache attack helicopter raids.
Her recent programme highlights the requirement for a Navy capable of responding at short notice to unforeseen events that may occur in an uncertain and ever-changing world. |
