BCCD-BIU Scolarship Awards 2008

On Friday 19 Sept. BCCD - BIU members gathered for the first luncheon of the season to listen to Professor Steen Thomsen's presentation on "Corporate Governance". But first, this occasion also gave an ideal opportunity to award two young students from the Copenhagen University, who are going to the UK to study,  with their scholarships.

More than 50 Danish students applied for the scholarships and the Board's Education Committee chose two promising students from the Copenhagen University (the scholarship is not limited to any particular education or school).
- Michael Brandt Rasmussen, who will take an MPhil in Finance at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.
- Mie la Cour Sonne, who will take an MSc in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics at the London School of Economics.

The scholarships support the stated aims of the organization which is “to work to promote the greatest amount of co-operation between Denmark and Great Britain, especially in the light of its strong historic, cultural and commercial bond.”

After the awards Prof. Thomsen gave an interesting lecture concerning the differences in corporate governance systems between the US, the UK, France, Germany and Denmark. Prof. Thomsen claim that "American CEOs are paid absurdly high salaries even if they can’t run their companies", sparked up a lively debate concerning Danish and US companies and the difference in culture and size.
