| Hamlet's Birthday Celebrated at Helsingør | Print |
Around 60 members and guests of the British Chamber of Commerce in Denmark and HamletScenen gathered at Kronborg Castle (or Elsinore as it is referred to in Shakespeare's Hamlet) to celebrate Hamlet's Birthday.
The play, Hamlet, is based on the story of a Danish Prince, Amled, who lived around 400AD and whose story was told by Saxo Grammaticus around 1200AD. Shakespeare relocated Amled's home to Elsinore, and renamed him Hamlet. The play has been performed many times at Kronborg Castle in recent years, and represents a strong cultural link between Britain and Denmark. The British Chamber of Commerce in Denmark, and the British Import Union have for many years been strong supporters of these performances, and of HamletScenen.
Hamlet's Birthday Brunch provides an ideal opportunity to celebrate and strengthen these links, and on 5th September 2010 we did so in grand style. Starting with Champagne in the courtyard, Brunch in one of the oldest rooms in the castle, and finishing with croquet on the upper ramparts of the castle - the day was interspersed with speeches from Lars Engel, Director of HamletScenen, and Mariano A. Davies, President of the British Chamber of Commerce in Denmark.
The story is best told in pictures, so thanks to Hugh Mayo for the following:
Welcome drinks in Slotsgaarden
