Lunches

"Ørestad - a major new town development in the centre of the Øresund Region" is the title Christoph Wiese, Sales Manager for Ørestadsselskabet, has chosen for the first BCCD lunch of 2006 on 20 January. Now is the time to sign up at www.bccd.dk, or see link below. Drinks begin at 11.45 and lunch begins at 12.15 at the Imperial Hotel.

"De-regulation in the Airline Industry" is the title Stefan Wilner, Vice-President, Commercial of Sterling Airlines, has chosen when he speaks at the lunch on 24 February. See link below for further details.  Details of lunches for the rest of 2006 are available at the website so that members can book the dates and line up their guests in plenty of time.

Better Business with Britain

In the interests of doing better business with Britain the BCCD is now working in close association with the UK Business Club (UKBC). Members of the BCCD are invited to attend the UKBC half-day conference on this theme in association with the BCCD and with lassen.net on 2 February 2006 at the Regus Offices in Copenhagen from 08.45 to 12.00 at no cost. Speakers will include Stephen Metti from UKTI at the British Embassy, Claus Wagenblast-Franck from Danske Bank, Steen Rosenfalck from Miller Rosenfalck, Paul Pownall from the Tenon Group, Martin Williams from European Business Solutions and our own Mariano A. Davies. Click on the link at the end of the Newsletter for the full programme, and registration should be made by 25 January to nicolai@lassen.net.

Copenhagen - a magnet for head offices

Copenhagen Capacity and Deloitte invite members to attend a conference on 23 January from 3pm to 6pm on this theme at Deloitte's new head office. The General Manager of British Airways will explain why Copenhagen is the base for BAs Nordic operations. All three companies are members of the BCCD. The General Manager of Genzymes, an international biotech company, will also be a speaker at the conference, at which both Copenhagen Capacity and Deliotte will share information and ideas. Click on the link at the end of the Newsletter for more information or go to www.copcap.com/composite-9187.htm.

New Year Gala

Members and companions are invited to join members of the International Club Copenhagen at this black tie dinner on the theme of Design on Thursday 19 January at 18.00 at the Copenhagen Hilton Hotel for DKK 200 per person. Sign up by contacting anne.mette.knudson@hilton.com or telephone 32445406 or 28864107.

Farewell Ambassador

Sir Nicholas Browne, the British Ambassador and the Patron of the BCCD, is leaving this month. We are sad to see him go and will certainly miss his presence at BCCD events and his consistent support for the development of the BCCD. He has opened the door for the Chamber on several occasions and his friendliness has helped to ensure that the Chamber lives up to its credo of "business through alliance and friendship".

Welcome Pam Pourzanjani

Pam Pourzanjani is now our half-time Administrator at pp@bccd.dk and has bravely faced the task of getting our membership details under control. She is now also working more and more closely with the website and has recently begun to work with daily finances.

Board Changes

Unfortunately we were not able to keep Ian Peerless as a Board Member for very long before his continued work with Ernst & Young made it necessary for him to resign for the time being. We hope very much that he will come back to us in a year or two. Ian is one of the longer serving members of the former BBLC with experience that goes back a long way.

James Derry has also resigned from the Board recently in response to increased expansion of work in Sitecore. James has been a prime mover in the transformation of the BBLC to the BCCD. His greatest contribution has been the development of the BCCD website at www.bccd.dk which came to involve him in a seemingly endless stream of requests for action to communicate with members. It will take time for us to replace the expertise and knowledge which he has brought to the Board.

These two sad losses are balanced by our pleasure that Jette Ward, Visit Britain, has kindly agreed to let us co-opt her onto the Board. Not only will she bring us fresh expertise and insights, but she will also ensure that the Board in not entirely male dominated.

Although not a member of the Board, Pia Rasmussen will also be sadly missed. Pia has done a huge amount in the past year to support and serve the Chamber, primarily as our Financial Accountant and also as an administrator and the person who has helped to make our lunches go smoothly at the Imperial Hotel. Her resilience has been quite remarkable. She leaves Scanplan to take up a new job and we are again grateful to Scanplan for making it possible for her to work so much for BCCD.

Christmas Reception

The Christmas Reception was a great success and was well attended by the Ambassador, members and guests. It was held at Scanplan instead of the Embassy this year and was jointly hosted by the BCCD and UKTI with the quality of generous support we have come to associate with Scanplan. Gordon Fazakerley's paintings were well admired by a crowd of guests who clearly started the Christmas season the way they intended to continue it.

Kind Regards,

John Mott, Executive Director
