The New Season

Welcome back from the summer holidays. The BCCD season traditionally begins in September and 1st September marks the beginning of our new financial year, this being the third in the Chamber's short history. We hope you have recently received our invitation to take part in the Cardiff Mission, not to mention the invitation to attend the September Lunch and shortly you will receive the invitation to the Autumn Ball.

Lunches

Bertel Haarder, the Danish Minister of Education, will be speaking about "the Danish model for future society" at the first BCCD lunch of the new season on Friday, 15th September 2006 at the Imperial Hotel. Drinks will be served from 11.45 and lunch will commence at 12.20. Please sign yourself and your guest(s) in at www.bccd.dk if you have not already done so.

The Annual General Meeting of the BCCD this year will take place at the October lunch on Friday 13th October - before the school half term. Our speaker on that occasion will be our new Patron, H. E. Mr. David Frost, the British Ambassador. Nominations for election to the Board need to reach director@bccd.dk by 22nd September 2006.

The Autumn Ball

Now is the time to book your tickets for the BCCD Annual Autumn Ball on 28th October.

Professor John Donaldson, father of Crown Princess Mary and Velux Professor of Mathematics at the University of Copenhagen, will be the speaker at this gala event at the Odd Fellow Palæ, sponsored by Sterling Airlines.

The band for the evening will be The Happy Hours (alias "Efterfyraften"), a five person band led by Jan Buch with a wide repertoire of music for dancing, appealing to all ages.

Details about the Ball will be announced in newsletters and on the web site. Tickets can be ordered from www.bccd.dk at DKK 800 ex VAT. Tickets for a partner are DKK 640 ex VAT. Tables of 10 can be ordered at DKK 7200 ex VAT. Do not miss the opportunity of joining us for a really good evening.

Cardiff Mission

The Cardiff Mission is an invitation to visit Cardiff, the capital of Wales, together with a group of senior Nordic business people in late November. This mission aims to promote trade and investment between Denmark and Wales. It will enable companies and individuals, who are existing or potential investors in the UK, to find out more about doing business in Wales. Furthermore, it will be a great opportunity to increase your cross boarder network.

The Cardiff Mission is possible due to the extensive planning and preparation carried out by our Founder Member, International Business Wales (formerly Welsh Development Agency), led by Nick Naysmith. Further details about the event can be found at www.bccd.dk.

Companies and individuals are asked to register their interest as soon as possible by contacting the BCCD Administrator for the Cardiff Mission, Hanne Svarer Schwensen on +45 39 90 08 25 or hss@lassen.net.

Administrators - hail and farewell

We are pleased to announce that Penny Schmith has been appointed BCCD Administrator from 1st September 2006, the more so since Penny comes to us from the Political Section of the British Embassy and will help to strengthen the ties with the Embassy. We welcome her arrival. She will work half time for the BCCD and will gradually take over from Pam Pourzanjani during September. We are most grateful to Pam for building up the administration of BCCD during her time with us and we wish her and her family every happiness in their new lives.

Summer Lunch

Our thanks to Founder Member, Allan Eimert, for a splendid Summer Lunch with the European Search Group at their headquarters in June. The guests enjoyed excellent food, drink and unlike last year fine weather. This proved to be an excellent occasion for networking and meeting new people, quite apart from simply enjoying the company of colleagues and friends in great surroundings. Those of us who could stay till later in the afternoon also enjoyed the stirring playing of the forty-piece brass band.

The Golf Tournament

Ernst and Young again sponsored the annual British Chamber of Commerce in Denmark Golf Tournament at the Vallensbæk-based Copenhagen Golf Centre on Sunday, 13th August. The Professional 18 hole event, for players with a recognised handicap, was won by Bjarne Wagner from Contex in torrential rain with 36 points. Mogens Andreasen and Jacob Fogt from Ernst and Young came second and third with 32 and 28 points respectively. Mariano A. Davies, the Chairman of BCCD, presented the prizes.

The Non-Professional event, for beginners and players without an official handicap, was won by Jacob de Stricker from Scanplan Ejendomme, with Ernie Sharp as runner up. Third prize went to John Mott, the Executive Director of BCCD, as the only other non-professional to complete the 9 hole course.

All other non-professional players prudently chose to seek shelter from the rain in the club house. Here, having managed to decipher most of the sodden score cards and trying to find some dry clothes, all participants enjoyed a relaxed and friendly lunch and looked forward to the 2007 BCCD Tournament at the same time and place next year, hopefully in better weather conditions.
