Dear Members and Contacts,

Welcome to the new season of BCCD-BIU activities!

We have many interesting events in the pipeline which we hope will be attractive to existing members and those who are considering joining us. Many of these are in the final planning stages now so it is a good idea to have a regular look at the calendar on the website to see what is coming up in advance of our invitation being sent out.

Lunches:

Tuesday 6 October, Radisson SAS Royal Hotel

A special extra lunch event has been arranged for members during the International Olympic Committee's Congress in Copenhagen.

We are pleased to be welcoming:

  • Christophe Dubi, IOC Sports Director
  • Frankie Fredericks, Olympic Silver Medalist and Chairman of IOC Athletes Commission
  • Søren Holmgren, Olympic Gold Medalist in Goal Ball at the Handicapped Olympics in Sydney and Athens

as our guest speakers. The theme will be "sport and the values and opportunities it gives to young people"

An invitation with further information will be sent out shortly.

From the Board:

Peter Christgau has decided to step down from the Board.

Peter joined the Board of the British Import Union in 1993, when he was CEO of British Steel Denmark. He continued on to the BCCD-BIU Board after the merger.

Our chairman, Alf Duch-Pedersen, thanks him for his many contributions and excellent performance on the Board.

We hope to see him at future events as he remains an individual member.

The Board has unanimously agreed to co-opt Vagn Thorup, a partner in Kromann Reumert

"I consider it a privilege to have been co-opted to the BCCD Board. My firm has close connections with the UK legal and financial world, which we cultivate through our London office. Personally, I look forward to supporting the BCCD Board in promoting the exchange of trade, commerce and culture between Britain and Denmark."

From the Secretariat:

Thank you for all your good wishes on my appointment as Executive Director of BCCD-BIU. I'm looking forward to working with the Board in my new role, to achieve our vision in the Chamber's Charter.

Many of you will already be aware that a new face has appeared at the BCCD offices.

Katherine Vyce joined us as a part time administrative assistant at the beginning of September.

Katherine moved to Denmark with her partner in March 2009. She worked as an Instrument Engineer at Shell E&P based in Aberdeen, Scotland, for three years after completing her degree at Cambridge. The job included working in the maintenance and projects departments looking after the North Sea oil & gas platforms.

In Copenhagen she has been learning Danish, setting up a handbag design company, and building a climbing wall.

All excellent skills to become a valued part of the BCCD secretariat!

We warmly welcome Katherine to the team and the wider network of BCCD-BIU members. Say hello, when you see her at an event........

Sadly both Mads Ploug and David Carsten Pedersen, our two students from Copenhagen Business School, have left us before the summer.  They need to concentrate on other academic and work challenges from now on.

They will be greatly missed and I am very grateful for all the support they have given me over the past couple of years.

The COP15 Post – the climate conference newspaper:

Our media partner, The Copenhagen Post will be producing a separate daily English language newspaper during COP15 climate conference from 7-18 December. The COP15 Post will be an independent tabloid format journal covering the latest news from the conference as well as the myriad organisations, businesses and high profile individuals who will be in the city at that time. Additionally, there will be entertainment, restaurant and hospitality listings, as well as a double page city map and important information for visitors.

The print run will be 10,000 copies per day to be distributed through their established distribution network to hotels and key city points, as well as by 25 individual distributors who will make sure that everyone who wants a copy can get one for free. They are also discussing distribution of  the paper inside the conference centre with the Foreign Ministry.

The COP15 Post is being produced by a dedicated team of journalists and editors with full accreditation to the COP15 event. In addition to the physical copy, a PDF version will be downloadable for free on a daily basis.

BCCD members are offered discounted advertising rates in The COP15 Post, and if you are interested in profiling your company in this publication, please contact Jeanne Thames at +45 33 36 42 47 or jeanne@cphpost.dk for details.
