Thomas Kluge and the Corner Exhibition at Charlottenborg
Don't forget to sign up for the special event we have arranged at Charlottenborg Art Gallery in Nyhavn, Copenhagen on Wednesday 10 January 2007 from 17.00 - 19.00. Thomas Kluge, the well known artist renowned for his portraits of the Royal family and amongst others Mærsk McKinney Møller, will be our guest speaker.
After a reception in the café, we will hear Thomas talk about "Portrait Art" and then Kjeld Heltoft, Director of "Corner" (an association of Danish artists) will give us a guided tour of the Corner exhibition, which will be the largest collection of British art ever shown in Denmark. Please note that on this occasion our speaker and host will speak in Danish. A good opportunity for our British members to improve their language skills.
H. E, Mr. James P. Cain, the American Ambassador, will be speaking about "Entrepreneurship and Innovation" at our first lunch i the New Year on January 19th. We will start with a (free!) drink at 11.45. Our guest will talk at 12.15, with time for questions before lunch is served at 13.00.
Speakers arranged for the rest of the 2007 season include: Søren Gade, Danish Minister for Defence and Mimi Jakobsen, General Secretary of Save the Children Denmark. Take a regular look at our website for updated information.
Our Patron, David Frost, the British Ambassador, will be hosting a Dinner for Founder Members and other invited guests on Wednesday 7 February 2007 at his Residence. Mark Gibson, Director of the UK Department of Trade and Industry will be the Guest speaker.
Past Events:
Our Chairman, Mariano A Davies participated in the annual Remembrance Sunday ceremony on 12 November at Bispebjerg Kirkegaard to remember those who gave their lives in the service of their countries during the two World Wars. He laid a wreath during the Act of Remembrance ceremony on behalf of the British Chamber of Commerce.
The words of Lawrence Binyon were chosen this year to remember and honour the sacrifice of those who have fallen so that others may live free:
"They shall grow not old as we who are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

November's guest speaker was the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Ivan Jancarek who outlined the major factors behind the Czech Republic's development since 1993 and explained why it can be a good partner for trade and investment. His full presentation can be found on our website.
The Inward Mission to Cardiff in November was a success and is a good example of the potential value of BCCD for its members. Representatives from seven BCCD corporate members and three non-member organisations participated. Our chairman, Mariano A Davies, made the following assesment on his return: "As with any new venture there were challenges and lessons to be learnt, but nothing serious. BCCD has managed to brand Wales and place it on the agenda of many gazelle companies looking to expand their export activities."
We are particularly grateful to Lassen.net for their role in setting up the mission whose experience with organising events, hard work and determination led to its success. Thanks also go to International Business Wales for hosting this mission and Ambassador David Frost for his significant help with the final stages of the planning.
Full details of the programme, presentations and evaluations of participants can be found at Lassen.net's site

Despite the dreadful weather, over thirty five of our members participated in the reception held earlier this month at UKTI's attractive refurbished offices. Once again this annual event provided an excellent networking opportunity with the many other representatives of Danish and British companies also invited by the Embassy to mark the start of the festive season.

A new feature this year was the British company " Innocent Drinks " providing very tasty alternatives for those guests who did not care to indulge in alcohol.
